In Tanzania, over 500,000 deaf individuals face enormous barriers to education and communication. This project is focused on proactive outreach by sending local volunteer, Patrick, into rural villages in Dodoma to find the deaf children who need a chance at education. Our mission is to locate these children and provide them with tailored education, including teaching Tanzanian Sign Language for effective communication.
Kigwe School in Dodoma is a beacon of hope. It's the premier government primary school for deaf children, providing a curriculum designed to meet their unique needs. Here, they learn in Tanzanian Sign Language, gaining the power to communicate and learn. The government provides essential resources, accommodation, and meals, ensuring these children get the education they deserve. Although this is a government funded school, these children need uniforms, travel expenses, books etc to be able to access this education.
It costs around £80 per year to provide the necessary resources that a deaf child will need, and by working with The Tanzania Development Trust we are able to do so.
