For hundreds of years, the military has served our country. Across all three services, the heritage of all those who have served and given their lives for their country is immortalised in gardens of remembrance and the history of all those who have gone before is recorded and protected by a numerous amount of military museums.
Our Military Heritage Fund looks to support twelve such institutions, allowing them to continue their work in protecting our military history. We will be supporting the following military museums, memorials, and gardens of remembrance.
The Black Watch Castle & Museum is a multi-award winning visitor attraction located in the beautiful city of Perth, in Scotland, where you can immerse yourself in the extraordinary history of The Black Watch.
The Highlanders Museum: Immerse yourself in the rich and diverse history, following in the footsteps of the Highland Soldier from just after the Battle of Culloden until the present day.
The Imperial War Museum: As a charity, now more than ever, the IWM needs support to ensure they can continue to tell personal stories and experiences of conflict for current and future generations to come.
The War Memorial Trust works to protect and conserve war memorials in the UK. The charity provides free advice to anyone, as well as running grant schemes to support repair and conservation projects.
The National Army Museum and its exhibitions are free for everyone, with no need to book in advance. Their galleries are undergoing an exciting new refresh programme and there are new objects to see all the time.
The Gurkha Museum commemorates the service of Gurkha soldiers to the British Crown; a relationship that has endured since 1815. It is located in Winchester.
The National Memorial Arboretum is a UK-registered charity and a 150-acre visitor site on the edge of the National Forest in Staffordshire. It forms part of the Royal British Legion.
The Royal Air Force Museum is a National Museum and a registered charity. Their collection is central to everything they are and do, and comprises around 1.3 million objects which they hold in trust for the people of the UK.
The National Museum of the Royal Navy has six sites across the country, and is more than just galleries, displays, and exhibitions. It offers real experiences!
Navy Wings brings together flying historic naval aircraft, people, and the stories associated with flying from warships at sea, and aims to inspire future generations and to create a focus for remembrance.
The Military Intelligence Museum tells the story of British military intelligence, from the Boer War onwards, revealing the tactics, techniques, and equipment used by the people who have carried out their vitally important tasks across the years, often in secret, with courage and determination, but always without fanfare.
The Airborne Assault Museum is the Regimental Museum of the Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces and tells the stories of the soldiers who go to war from the air. It is co-located at The Imperial War Museum in Duxford.
